About the Images

Opinions certainly vary with regard to manipulation of photographic images. Purists believe that the final product should be relatively unchanged from the original image. In the “Good Old Days” of film, darkrooms, chemicals and paper prints, manipulation was generally limited to dodging and burning to either lighten or darken areas of a print. Now, given the tremendous creative possibilities utilizing modern computers, imaging software and digital files, photographers have limitless options for expanding this art form.

Here you see how, using different techniques, the final image can be significantly altered from the original, shown at left. My creative tools are a Nikon D100 SLR, Nikon Cool Pix 5200, PhotoShop and a Macintosh computer. Incidentally, the above examples were shot with my first digital camera, a Canon 2 Megapixel point-and-shoot.

For me, photography is first and foremost, an art. From my first days behind the camera and in the darkroom, I’ve attempted to capture a unique view of ordinary subjects. As you explore this site, you'll see images that have been heavily manipulated and others that are very close to the original shot. What I do is totally subjective and depends on my mood at the time; I hope you enjoy what you see here!
